Bayesian Analysis of the Genetic Control of Survival in F3 Families of Common Bean Chilean J. Agric. Res.

The objectives of this study were to examine the genetic control of survival in segregant families F3 of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in southern Brazil during the 2004-2005 growing season, to identify useful genotypes for the breeding program of this crop, and to determine the genetic association between survival and weight of 100 seeds (production trait; P100). A Bayesian approach was used to predict breeding values and to estimate variance components. Survival was recorded as a binary response: dead plant or live plant during harvest. Mapeo de loci de caracteres cuantitativos (QTL) usando un enfoque multivariado Ciencia e Investigación Agraria

Los procedimientos usados en el mapeo de loci de característica cuantitativa (QTL) son continuamente estudiados ya que son fundamentales para mejorar la precisión del análisis genético. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo examinar QTLs a través de métodos muí ti variados, considerando el principio de mapeo por intervalo simple. Se simuló un conjunto de datos de marcadores moleculares microsatélites provenientes de una población F2. Al mismo tiempo se consideró que los QTLs controlan características de distribución normal y binomial. There is increasing interest in the development of intensively managed olive orchards (Olea europaea L.) in northern Chile. The selection of specific varieties that perform well on a particular site is considered crucial to maximizing productivity. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the productive performance of 29 varieties of olive in the Huasco Valley (28°34' S, 70°47' W), Northern Chile.The traits evaluated were: mean olive production per tree considering a longitudinal (PML) analysis over a period of five years, 2003 to 2007, total olive production in the same period (PA03-07) and alternate bearing index (ABI).
